Introduction

On December 2022, Anumula Babu Rao (Babu Rao), owner of Café Niloufer, based in Hyderabad in the Indian state of Telangana, came into limelight when he secured a bid for Manohari Gold Tea at Rs 1,15,000 (US$1400) per kg in an auction conducted by a private auction portal, Tea Inntech. Manohari Gold Tea was produced by the Manohari Tea Estate in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district, one of the high quality tea gardens. The tea was made available to customers at two of the outlets of Cafe Niloufer – Cafe Niloufer Premium Lounge, Banjara Hills; and Cafe Niloufer Himayathnagar, from January 1, 2023..
